What is hypnosis?
This may come as a surprise to you but you’ve been in a trance probably everyday of your life. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring trance-state that everyone experiences several times a day when your mind becomes selective of what it focuses its attention on. It happens when you are deeply engrossed in reading a book, watching a film, while exercising or when you’re daydreaming.
In hypnotherapy we use the mental state of hypnosis to engage in a process of deep relaxation that opens the door to the unconscious mind where the deepest change can take place. Unlike other therapeutic methods, hypnotherapy bypasses the conscious mind, helping you to go to the root of the issue that they are experiencing which is often hidden in their subconscious mind.
What if I fall asleep?
Hypnosis is not a sleep state it’s a state of increased awareness, so you’ll probably be able to hear everything that is being said. You might feel slightly drowsy, your mind wander but your subconscious mind will wake you up, and you will naturally come out of the hypnosis. Will I remember anything afterwards?
You may, or may not, be able to remember everything afterwards - but at the time you will hear everything that is being said. What people remember about their experience during hypnosis often depends on the different levels of trance people drift in. Some people go in to a very deep, some people go in to a medium trance, and some go in to a light trance. They are both equally satisfying.
Will I be made to do something I might later regret?
You will never be made to say, or do, anything you don't want to - and if you were given suggestions that you didn't morally approve of - you would come out of hypnosis. You are in control - but at the same time you are also very deeply relaxed. During this relaxed state - your subconscious mind is open and receptive to the suggestions given to you - providing they are the suggestions that you consciously want to take effect.
How is hypnosis used?
Hypnotherapy uses the hypnotic trance state to help you achieve a goal, or create a positive change in your thinking to help solve a problem. This problem varies from weight-loss, non-smoking, stress reduction, phobias, self-esteem and motivation, depression, sleep, anxiety, and health problems.
What is the actual experience of hypnosis like?
During hypnosis you will most likely be asked to visualize certain things. As part of this process you might commit to an alternative reality described by the therapist or you might prefer to use your own imagination and memory.
How will I feel afterwards?
After the hypnosis session the only differences you may be aware of is that you feel more relaxed than usual.....more focused, emotionally balanced, uplifted, and you might experience a significant reduction in stress, making you feel much calmer.
How can it change my life in the long-run?
Hypnotherapy gives you the opportunity to connect the subconscious aspect of your life with your conscious mind. This enables people to develop an expanded awareness of themselves which in many cases inspires people to set a new path for themselves.
If you fully commit to the therapeutic process hypnotherapy has the potential to help you make a dramatic difference in your lifestyle, and to your general well-being.
